School Swimming Policy Checklist 2025/26

The aim of the questionnaire is to ascertain the following in regard to School Swimming and Water Safety: 

• Headteacher, staff and Governors are aware of their responsibilities 
• Headteacher and the staff in charge of School Swimming have produced all of the relevant paperwork. 
  • Those attending the sessions have signed and dated them too i.e. Risk Assessments and NOP/ EAP’s.
  • Headteachers have reviewed H&S documents relating to school swimming and water safety (BSSP H&S Update sent 3rd Oct 2025, please click here for those documents)
• Staff have received suitable training (Stage 1 Support Teacher of School Swimming, Stage 2 Teacher of School Swimming, Swim England Qualifications and/or Swimming Teachers Association Qualifications). 

This questionnaire is compulsory and depending on when your school delivers School Swimming we will need the questionnaire to be completed no later than:

If you complete the questionnaire, your scores will be reviewed under a traffic light rating system. If through this process you are classified as a “green” school, you will be given all electronic versions of the kitemark below to place on your letterhead and/or any platforms. This reaffirms your school’s excellent diligence in regard to School Swimming and Water Safety.
